I take photographs with love, so I try to make them art objects. But I make them for myself first and foremost - that is important. Jacques-Henri Lartique

There are a few things that come to mind when I hear the word "thing."

  1. 1. "A noun is a person, place or thing." That phrase from Schoolhouse Rock is ingrained in my brain. As you can see by the navigation bar on the left, that influenced my choice of gallery titles.
  2. 2. John Carpenter's "The Thing," a 80s remake of a cold war sci-fi classic. I'm not sure why I like that movie so much. Perhaps it's the cold. The isolation. The paranoia.

  3. 3. Two more childhood memories: "Thing 1" and "Thing 2" from The Cat in the Hat. I never liked those two sneaky bastards. I was always partial to the Goldfish.  Where the Wild Things Are. I didn't own a copy, but when I visited my cousins in Corpus Christi I would sneak it off the bookshelf and find some dark corner to read it. Always in the daytime, never at night.

  4. 4. My Favorite Things. Could someone please explain to me why this song from the musical The Sound of Music is played at Christmas?! That drives me crazy, but at the same time, one of my favorite songs is John Coltrane's version.  8 plus minutes of bebop perfection.
